The MAIP on boarding Experience
Since I started this journey in December of last year, I had the idea that I would not be selected for the MAIP fellowship program because I believed I didn’t have the experience they were looking for when selecting applicants. To my surprise, I’ve learned just through my now-on-boarding experience that it’s not about a grand experience a person already has behind but rather the passion, knowledge, and overall motivation a person has to succeed. MAIP has been very communicative since the beginning of my onboarding experience since my application was accepted. While being virtual, this portion of MAIP has provided us with information we must know before our internship in the next month. From emails to digital workshops, resources are being given to us that are improving our experience so far, not just as fellows but also as human beings.
MAIP staff understand how difficult life can be for different individuals in colleges, and they’ve shown that they can accommodate for issues people face, such as allowing fellows to schedule 1-1 meetings to discuss private matters as well as making everything they present more fun and interesting rather than serious or boring. As of now, every fellow is working through their virtual spring training in preparation for knowing how an agency (where many fellows are interning) functions and what to expect when it comes to social interaction. Some pieces of training have dived into different disciplines in advertising and marketing, such as what the role of a copywriter is, what strategists do to solve problems, and what tools digital artists use to create visual images like billboards and commercials.
Overall the onboarding experience is exceptional and informative for the 50th cohort of MAIP fellows entering the workforce from diverse cultures and backgrounds!
